Avon and Somerset Police have said they are analysing drone and body camera footage to identify if any Tier 4 restriction offences were committed at Glastonbury Tor on New Year's Eve.

A number of people gathered at the Tor on the last day of the year, with reports of lack of social distancing and people camping at the site.

The police were called in the morning and say they remained on the scene until 10pm, to make sure people obeyed the Covid-19 Tier 4 rules.

A police spokesperson said: "Following reports of a number of people gathering at Glastonbury Tor on New Year's Eve, officers were dispatched to the area shortly before 11am.

"Officers, from teams including neighbourhood and Operation Remedy, engaged with those at the site and encouraged them to comply with Covid-19 restrictions.

"During the day we worked with the local authority to close surrounding roads to prevent more people accessing the site and a dispersal notice was put in place. Officers remained in the area until approximately 10pm.

"Footage obtained by officers' body worn cameras and the drone unit will be analysed to identify any potential offences that were committed, with Somerset now a Tier 4 area.

"The message is clear – people should be remaining at home and not mixing with other households to prevent the virus from spreading."
