Somerset Council has granted planning permission for improvements to Fondo Lounge, located at 107 High Street in Street.

The café bar is set to undergo changes that include a new rear extension, an updated external seating area, and the relocation of existing signage. The approval comes after a planning application was submitted by Reade Associates.

The improvements are designed to fit in with the surrounding area, which is part of a conservation zone and features a number of listed buildings.

The approved plans involve the construction of a new glass-roofed extension with retractable glazing elements, which aim to create an "open-air" feel for the space.

The external seating area will be moved and the existing signage at the rear of the building will also be relocated. In addition, a redundant external staircase will be removed as part of the renovation.

Details of the design indicate that the changes will be consistent with existing structures and the conservation area. New masonry walls will be rendered in grey, and the glass roof and new doors will feature PPC aluminium frames finished in "Ashes of Roses" by Little Greene (RAL4002). The timber walls and plants surrounding the current outdoor seating area are set to be reused and relocated in the new design.

The approval by Somerset Council provides the green light for these various improvements to Fondo Lounge, which are expected to contribute to the local area and offer an enhanced experience for patrons.
