The parents of a two-week-old infant are set to stand trial later this year, charged with the murder of their son at Yeovil District Hospital.

Daniel Gunter, 25, formerly of the Glastonbury area and currently of no fixed abode, and Sophie Staddon, 20, are accused of the murder of Brendon Staddon on Tuesday, March 5.

In addition to the murder charge, the pair are also charged with causing or allowing the death of Brendon. This charge implies that as frequent contacts and members of the same household as Brendon, they either directly caused his death or failed to protect him from a significant risk of serious physical harm.

The case proceeded to a plea and trial preparation hearing at Bristol Crown Court before Judge William Hart. Gunter entered a plea of not guilty to the charges of murder and causing or allowing the death of a child, while Staddon did not enter any pleas.

Both have been remanded in custody and are scheduled to appear before a High Court judge starting Monday, November 11. A further hearing has been set for July.
