Planning applications have been submitted for works to numerous trees in the conservation area in and around Glastonbury Abbey.

Tree surgeon and consultant Nick Connett has submitted applications for works to 15 trees in the conservation area at the abbey itself, and for another 15 at the Abbey Gatehouse.

Alongside this, the Abbey House Retreat has submitted a similar application for works to four trees in their conservation area, and to remove another tree that fell during high winds.

Among the works planned at the abbey itself are felling and replanting a walnut tree, and reducing the crown of a couple of lime trees close to the main abbey building to improve their balance.

One other planning application in the Glastonbury area has been submitted this week to Mendip District Council.

Replacement of existing lean-to extension and new porch at Home Farm, 3 Stileway, Meare, has been applied for by Mr Henry Street.

Planning decisions in the Glastonbury area that have been made by Mendip District Council this week include:

Demolition of storage sheds to the rear of garages and the installation of new timber fencing at the rear of garages at The Close, Glastonbury, by Mrs Tracey Hancock has been approved.

Single storey extension to east side of building at 63 Hill Head, Glastonbury, by Mr Ian Scriven has been approved.

Application for a proposed lawful development certificate for creation of a driveway and dropped kerbs at 92 Boundary Way, Glastonbury, by Mrs Helen Bulman has been approved.
