Glastonbury Abbey's Night at the Abbey event, scheduled for 24th August 2024, is now searching for a new headliner following the withdrawal of Neville Staple, the legendary frontman from The Specials.

Staple was diagnosed with a serious heart defect at the beginning of December 2023 and, upon medical advice, has had to cancel his upcoming performances, including the anticipated event at Glastonbury Abbey.

Despite treatments and medications which have stabilised his condition, specialists have advised Staple to take a complete break from live performing and touring.

Expressing his disappointment but understanding the necessity of the decision, Staple has conveyed his gratitude for the continued support from his fans and followers and intends to still attend personal appearances for charities, albeit not performing live shows.

Brad Lister, Glastonbury Abbey's Head of Commercial Activity, said, "We wish him all the best. To have to pull back from doing something that is core to your being must be devastating and while we are all disappointed to not have him play Night at the Abbey in August, health comes first. "

The Night at the Abbey event, known for its diverse musical experience spanning various genres, had Staple set to perform alongside his band From The Specials. With his absence, the event organisers are now in the process of securing a new headlining act.

The festival, celebrated for its mix of two-tone, folk, contemporary pop, and electro-swing, features three stages of live music and has attracted over 3,000 attendees in previous years. The 2024 lineup includes 14 acts across the Main Stage, King Arthur Stage, and The Chapel.

Advance discount tickets for the event are currently on sale, with a range of catering stalls and a fully stocked bar promised to add to the festival atmosphere. Physical ticket are available for purchase at Glastonbury Abbey.

Night at the Abbey has been recognised for its excellence with a Silver award at the Bristol, Bath and Somerset Tourism Awards and a nomination at the National Outdoor Events Association awards.
