Street's High Street welcomes a new One Stop, opening on 18 July in the former WHSmith store, following the reopening of the Post Office counter.

Street is set for a major convenience boost as a new One Stop store prepares to open next month in the former WHSmith building – bringing extended opening hours, everyday essentials, and vital Post Office services back to the heart of the village.

The store, located at 85 High Street, will open on 18 July and offer a wide range of groceries, household items, snacks, newspapers and more.

The announcement follows the long-awaited return of Street's main Post Office, which reopened on Monday 9 June – more than five months after the original branch closed in January. WHSmith, who previously operated the site, withdrew from the partnership citing sustainability concerns, leaving the village centre without key postal services.

Although a sub-branch remained open in the west end of Street, the loss of the main High Street location was felt by many residents and businesses. A soft launch of the new branch took place on 9 June, with a formal opening ceremony planned for Thursday 20 June.

The reinstated Post Office now offers the full range of services, operating 49 hours a week – from Monday to Friday, 9am to 6pm, and Saturdays, 9am to 1pm.

The new One Stop store will build on this, providing in-store services such as free cash withdrawals, an Evri parcel shop, the National Lottery, and food-to-go options.

Owned by Tesco but operating as a separate business, One Stop runs more than 900 stores across England and Wales and employs over 10,600 people.

The Street and Glastonbury Chamber of Commerce welcomed the news and praised the efforts of Hardik Pandya and the team for making it happen. A spokesperson said: "This is a huge win for the village. Having the Post Office return and One Stop moving in will make a real difference to residents and businesses alike."

Building work is still ongoing, and locals are asked to bear with the team as the final preparations are made ahead of the July opening. Once complete, the store is expected to become a central hub for shopping, sending parcels, and accessing essential services right in the centre of the village.
