Glastonbury based, self catering accommodation, Spa and Farm Shop, The Middlewick, has created at least 10 new local jobs with the imminent opening of its new Farm Shop & Cafe.

Historically, The Middlewick has always run a small Farm Shop for its self catering accommodation guests. The shop was dramatically expanded in response to the Covid crisis with a 'click and collect' service launched for locals.

Following the launch of a new day spa facility earlier this year and an increase in group bookings and retreats at The Middlewick owners, Jill and Jonathon Barker, identified that they needed an even bigger farm shop and cafe to service their growing guests.

"In order to be able to serve our expanding guests whether that be Spa guests, friends popping over a coffee and cake together, walkers en route to the Tor or self catering guests staying for the week we identified the need for a much larger Farm Shop and Cafe" explained owner Jill Barker. "It was important to us that the new farm shop and cafe maintained the essence of 'The Middlewick Experience' through enjoying, connecting with and supporting our amazing Somerset countryside setting.

"It was also important for the new building to be built as eco-friendly as possible using local Glastonbury builders and tradespeople. We installed solar panels and air source heating and we used environmentally friendly paints and finishes. We will also not be using disposable, single use take away cups and the cafe will offer a locally sourced, seasonal menu" she added.

The new Farm Shop and Cafe alone will create at least 10 new jobs and the increased footfall at The Middlewick is also expected to see The Spa at Middlewick continue to expand its workforce in response. There is a mixture of managerial, supervisory, full time, part time and seasonal work available. The existing Farm Shop remains fully open whilst the new Farm Shop and Cafe is built. The new Farm Shop and Cafe is opening in July 2022.
