A new book created in Glastonbury is sharing the true stories of real owls, offering readers gentle life lessons alongside important messages about animal welfare and compassionate care.
The book is based on the lived experiences of the author and captive bred owls that have been relinquished into her care from bad situations , telling honest, heart-led stories that highlight each owl's personality, challenges, and the lessons they have taught through trust, patience, and understanding. Rather than fictional tales, the book focuses on real moments that encourage respect for animals and a deeper awareness of their emotional and physical needs.
Alongside the stories, the book carries positive messages about ethical owl care, welfare-led practices, and learning through observation rather than control. It aims to help both children and adults develop empathy, mindfulness, and a stronger connection to nature.
Created as part of the wider Owl Enlightenment project, the book supports education, mental wellbeing, and positive animal experiences. It is already being used within home education, wellbeing activities, and community learning, helping readers reflect on kindness, responsibility, and the value of listening — both to animals and to ourselves.
The authors hope the book will inspire families, educators, and animal lovers to see owls not as symbols or spectacles, but as individuals with stories worth hearing and lessons worth learning.
