Mendip District Council has been honoured at the national Regulatory Excellence Awards 2022.

The Council won the 'Net Zero Partnership' Award for partnership working on its wasted food pilot project which supported hospitality businesses in Mendip to reduce their food waste, save money and help them do their bit for the planet. Learn about the project here.

The Council's Environmental Health Officer who led the project, Michael Berry, also won 'Recognition for Leadership in Regulatory Services' for his skills and ideas in developing and leading the scheme.

The successful project was submitted as part of the Heart of the South West Better Business For All group.

Mr Berry said: "I am proud and honoured to be recognised nationally for the work in managing and delivering this project.

"It would not have been a success without the support of Mendip's partners. I am grateful for their contribution."

Cllr Ros Wyke, Leader of Mendip District Council, said: "I'm proud that the Council's efforts to tackle food waste and its support for Mendip hospitality businesses has been recognised at these national awards.

"It is an outstanding achievement, and I would like to thank all the officers and partners involved for their hard work."

Cllr Heather Shearer, Portfolio Holder for Community Health & Services, said: "We've already seen the positive impact this project has had on local businesses, so it's great that this innovative pilot has received an award on the national stage too."
