Glastonbury's MP has said he will be calling for a more robust approach to illegal encampments following the Summer Solstice celebrations in the town yesterday (June 21).

James Heappey has said he has concerns about the encampments and anti-social behaviour, after hundreds to revellers came to the town to mark the Solstice and the longest day of the year.

Mr Heappey said: "It was clear that many in the community shared my concerns that the Solstice celebrations in Glastonbury would be let down by even more illegal encampments and anti-social behaviour.

"I raised these concerns with the appropriate agencies last week and so it is with huge disappointment that it seems all of our fears have come to pass.

"Glastonbury is a diverse, open, and tolerant community but those who refuse to live by the law are trying the patience of the vast majority of residents in the town.

"When I meet with the Glastonbury Unauthorised Encampments Multi-Agency group on Friday (June 25), I will be demanding an even more robust approach."
