The mother of a two-week-old baby boy who died at Yeovil District Hospital earlier this year has pleaded not guilty to his murder.

Sophie Staddon, 20, appeared at Bristol Crown Court on 4th October, where she formally denied charges related to the death of her son, Brendon Staddon.

Ms Staddon entered not guilty pleas to two charges: the murder of her son and causing or allowing the death of a child by failing to protect him from a foreseeable significant risk of harm.

Brendon Staddon was born prematurely on 20th February and died in hospital just two weeks later on 5th March. His death has resulted in serious charges against both his parents. Ms Staddon's partner, Daniel Gunter, 25, who has links to Glastonbury, has already pleaded not guilty to the same charges during a previous hearing in April.

A trial date had initially been set for 18th November, but this has now been postponed. The next case management hearing will take place on 16th April, 2025. Both Ms Staddon and Mr Gunter remain in custody.
