Construction mat specialist Birketts, which has a regional depot near Glastonbury, has launched into the homebuild and developer market with a unique new oak mat, the Build Mat Pro, which is ready to tackle rain-sodden sites UK-wide.

Birketts is looking to change the current climate for housebuilders and developers, and has delivered a ground mat with dimensions of 5m x 1m x 85mm, unavailable elsewhere.

The Build Mat Pro was first used at Galion's 27-home LakeView site in Keinton Mandeville.

At 85mm thickness, the mat is being used by developers like Galion, requiring safe site access for a range of plant, machinery and vehicles.

With ground conditions in winter 2020 being some of the wettest on record, environmentally the Build Mat Pro prevents churn and ground contamination, and is made from timber from sustainable sources, where FSC forestry management is practised.

At LakeView, a wildlife meadow and orchard are to be created and protecting wildlife habitats was high priority.

The use of the new Build Mat Pro mats allowed Galion to have minimal impacts on the ground and also avoided the developer having to use stone to give vehicles and plant access.
