The owners of a horse stolen from his home in Street earlier this week are overjoyed that he has been returned.

Buddy was taken from his home on Street Drove overnight between Sunday and Monday, and his owners Jan and Casey Reddin were understandably distraught.

They put an appeal on Facebook for anyone with any information to let them know, which reached thousands of people. Then, last night (Thursday, July 28) Buddy was found abandoned in a ditch close to where he was taken.

Jan said: "We got a tip off from some children who saw the horse box near McDonald's and were sure it was Buddy. They phoned their Mum who messaged us."

Casey said: "We went to the location where he had been seen, but the horse and trailer had gone. But less than an hour later we found him in the place that they would have made him jump across when they took him. We know that's the part of the field he was stolen from because of the evidence seen by the police. We were at the yard just an hour before."

Buddy was stuck in the ditch where he had been abandoned, so a fire crew from Street and a specialist rescue team from Bridgwater were called to help rescue him. Fortunately he was unharmed by his ordeal.

Jan said: "He was all over social media and I'm sure that made him much too 'hot' and that's why he was brought back.

"I can't tell you how happy we are that he is home. And apart from being a bit smelly and dirty he seems quite content and happy to be back with his friends and family."
