For Glastonbury and Street, this week's jobs selection is a fairly accurate reflection of local life: a bit mystical, a bit practical, and occasionally happening at an hour no sensible person should be awake.

There's a management accountant role in Street for someone who enjoys untangling numbers, plus Glastonbury jobs that cover engineering, hospitality and window cleaning — so whether you fancy a career move or just need to escape your current nonsense, there's a respectable amount to be getting on with.

For the office-inclined, the spreadsheet-haunted, and those who enjoy a good clause

First up, Residential Property Lawyer, paying up to £55,000, based in Taunton with office flexibility across Somerset. Yolk Recruitment is handling this one for a well-established law firm after someone with 5+ years' PQE and the stamina to deal with not just standard conveyancing, but also the chewy bits — covenants, easements, declarations of trust, lease creation, equity release and Building Safety Act issues. Hybrid working is included, with three days on site, which these days counts as practically bohemian.

In Wells itself there's a Qualified Accountant role at a friendly office-based practice, paying up to £45,000. It's client-facing, so not one for anyone hoping to hide behind a monitor and communicate only by sighing. You'd be reviewing year-end accounts and tax returns, dealing directly with clients, and helping junior staff. Some experience with farming and rural businesses is a bonus, which makes sense round here, where half the county seems to know either a farmer, an accountant, or someone who is somehow both.

Then there's a Management Accountant job in Street, paying £50,000 to £55,000, fully office-based. This one's for someone ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualified who can handle management accounts, budgeting, forecasting, VAT, financial modelling and process improvements in a multi-entity organisation. In other words: ideal for the sort of person who sees a broken spreadsheet and thinks, "Lovely, let me at it."

For those who'd rather be out and about than trapped under strip lighting

If office life makes you want to fake your own disappearance, Blinds and Curtains Installer in Wells might be more your speed. Hillarys is advertising a flexible full-time or part-time role with earnings up to £50,000, aimed at people who want to work for themselves and stay closer to home. It's one of those jobs that sounds oddly peaceful until you remember customers will still be involved, but if you like practical work and the idea of measuring windows for money, fair enough.

Over in Glastonbury, Field Service Engineer is offering £35,000 to £50,000 plus overtime for someone happy with nationwide travel. The role involves installing, servicing and repairing recycling and waste-processing machinery, with van, fuel card and door-to-door travel included. Quite a solid package, really, especially for anyone who likes being trusted to get on with it without someone asking if you've "circle-backed" on that email.

There's also an Electrical Maintenance Engineer post in Shepton Mallet paying up to £50,000 on a 4-on, 4-off days-and-nights shift. It's in a heavily automated FMCG factory, so expect motors, drives, sensors, PLC fault-finding and the general thrill of keeping expensive machinery from having a nervous breakdown. They've invested in the site too, which is always reassuring. Much nicer joining somewhere with upgraded kit than somewhere running on one ancient conveyor and a prayer.

And for the properly practical, there's a Roofer role with MD Group covering Shepton Mallet, Glastonbury and Frome, paying £16 to £19 an hour. Full-time, Monday to Friday, van and fuel card included. You'll need roofing experience, safe-working knowledge and the ability to deal with repairs, guttering, flashing and chimney work without immediately developing a back problem.

For night owls, wedding wranglers and anyone who can smile through chaos

Fancy spending your weekends helping other people have the perfect day while trying not to murder the seating plan? Wedding and Events Planner at The French Kitchen in West Horrington is paying £28,000 to £30,000 for a full-time 35-hour week. The role mixes office planning, some home working, tasting sessions and on-site event management. So: emails, logistics, clients, food, timings, staff, pressure, and probably at least one adult crying near a barn. Ideal for someone with hospitality or events experience who can keep things moving without visibly losing the will to live.

For the nocturnal among us, Network Supervisor – Nights in Shepton Mallet is offering £35,000 for Monday to Friday night shifts. The advert itself is a bit vague and full of the usual "innovation" guff, which often means "you'll find out the real job once you arrive", but it may still be worth a look for anyone who likes working while everyone else is unconscious.

There's also a Night Porter at the George & Pilgrim in Glastonbury, paying £12.21 to £12.50 an hour, with full-time or part-time hours available. Shift is 11pm to 7am. You'll need to be organised, good on your own, and reasonably unflappable, which feels especially relevant in the G&P after dark, when the odds of meeting at least one phantom rise significantly.

And finally, Full Time Window Cleaner with Bubbles & Suds in Glastonbury is offering £27,040 a year. No experience needed, full training given, but you will need a full UK driving licence, decent fitness and a willingness to work in all weather conditions. Which in Somerset means sunshine, drizzle, sideways rain and that weird damp grey sulk the sky does for six months of the year.

So there you are: a solid mix of money, mud, machinery and mild peril. Better than doomscrolling, and certainly more productive than pretending you're not secretly looking at jobs during lunch.
