Police have been stepping up their presence in Glastonbury to help tackle anti-social behaviour issues in the town.

As a result of ongoing issues regarding the improper use of the St Johns Churchyard and surrounding area the Neighbourhood Policing Team has been supported by the Operational Support Team and Mounted Section with more patrols in the town with increased presence at the Church.

The team has also been working with the Church and ASB team to create a joint information letter that are being issued to anyone who uses the Church improperly which will go alongside any ASB warning letters.

The Neighbourhood Policing Team is also working with Mendip Councils enforcement team by doing joint patrols around the town in particular to tackle street drinking, in addition to the usual daily patrols.

There had been issues with indviduals openly begging in the town – but after a campaign which saw people being given a warning and support letters directing them to agencies on two occasions before being prosecuted, reports of begging are now declining.
