A photographer on a visit to Glastonbury Abbey was stunned when he spotted the ghostly figure of a monk in one of his shots.
Nathan Clarke at the popular attraction with his family last Sunday (August 7).
A founding member of the Paranormal Detectives – a YouTube based paranormal group – Nathan frequently takes pictures when visiting historical sites in the hope of capturing something paranormal, but, he says, he very rarely managed to capture anything, This time, however, he was in luck.
"Looking through my photos from Glastonbury Abbey I saw a photo which blew me away," said Nathan. "There appeared to be what looked like a monk/Abbot standing in the distance in one of the photos! I checked the next photo that was taken of the same area a second or two later and no monk! Absolutely thrilled with this photographic evidence of the paranormal ."
This is not the first time a ghostly apparition of a monk has appeared at the Abbey. Back in 2016 (coincidentally also on the weekend of the Glastonbury Extravaganza), Lara Tetlow from Bristol also found a spooky figure in one of her images.
In 1539 Henry VIII closed Glastonbury Abbey but the abbot refused to submit to the King.
He responded by hanging, drawing and quartering the abbot and two other monks. It is believed that it is the ghosts of these monks that haunt the Abbey.
The quarters of the bodies were publicly displayed in Glastonbury and other Somerset towns. Glastonbury Abbey was sacked then it was 'cannibalized' by people who took stone.
