2 fire appliances from Street and Glastonbury, together with a water carrier from Bridgwater, were mobilised following a call from a farmer saying they had a an amount of hay on fire in their barn.

Within minutes of the first crew arriving they confirmed this to be the case and set to work extinguishing what turned out to be 6 tonnes of hay involved, inside an open sided metal barn.

Crews made steady progress dragging out the hay, turning it over and damping down, whilst constantly checking for hotspots with a thermal imaging camera. By 21:16hrs the incident was under control and the fire, which started accidentally, was extinguished. Crews used hose reel jets, compressed air foam, drag forks and a thermal imaging camera. The fire was contained to the contents only and duty of care has been left the land owner.
