Glastonbury's new Re-Use Shop has officially opened at the Red Brick Building Centre, offering locals the chance to pick up second-hand household essentials at bargain prices while reducing waste.

Launched by Glastonbury Repair Café, the shop welcomed its first visitors on Saturday, 1st March, with a strong community turnout eager to browse, donate, and support the project.

Housed in a converted shipping container, the shop is stocked with everyday items that might otherwise have been discarded, including kettles, toasters, irons, steam cleaners, and even self-haircut kits.

Each item has been checked and refurbished, making them a more sustainable and affordable alternative to buying new.

Organisers say the project is about building a circular economy, ensuring that items are reused rather than ending up in landfill.

At the opening, volunteers thanked everyone who had contributed to making the shop a reality, from donors and funders to the team who helped set up the space. They stressed that while the shop had received plenty of donations, it now needed customers to make it viable. The goal is for stock to turn over quickly, keeping the project self-sustaining.

The ultimate vision is for Re-Use Shops to be set up at recycling centres across Somerset, making it easier for people to donate and purchase second-hand goods in one place.

For now, the focus is on making the Glastonbury shop a success, and organisers are calling on the community to come along, see what's on offer, and support the initiative.

The Re-Use Shop is currently open on Fridays and Sundays from 10am to 12pm at the Red Brick Building Centre, Morland Enterprise Park, Glastonbury, BA6 9FT. Donations are welcome, but organisers emphasise that buying items is just as important to keep the project running.

For more information, contact [email protected] or visit the shop during opening hours.
