In an emotional ceremony marking her final duty as Mayor of Glastonbury, the outgoing mayor of Glastonbury, Indra Donfrancesco awarded Kim Von Coels the prestigious title of Glastonbury Citizen of the Year.

The ceremony, held amid heartfelt applause, recognised Kim's dedicated contributions to the beautification and community spirit of the town through the mural trail and other artistic endeavours.

Her efforts, particularly in removing graffiti and preparing spaces for new murals, have played a significant part in enhancing the local environment.

"I've had the pleasure of working with Kim at many hours in the morning, early and late, scraping off graffiti off walls and preparing spaces for new murals to make our town even more beautiful," the Mayor said during the presentation. "We are utterly grateful, and it's my biggest honour to award you for good service, Citizens of Glastonbury."

In her acceptance speech, Kim expressed her deep affection for Glastonbury and its community.

"I absolutely love this town and most of the people in it," she shared. Kim recounted her life in Glastonbury, having moved there in 1986 with her mother, and highlighted the vibrant and dynamic nature of the community.

Despite her achievements, Kim displayed modesty about her contributions: "There are probably many more people more deserving of this award than me, but I'm grateful for the recognition. It's not why I do it, and I almost feel a little embarrassed by this whole procedure, but it's nice to know my efforts are appreciated."

Kim dedicated her award to the late Gina Ty Warton, last year's Citizen of the Year, acknowledging her profound impact on the community. She also thanked her partner, Dave, and her son, Zar, for their support, along with Vicky Steward, her go-to person for advice and support.

In concluding her speech, Kim encouraged the community to support her current projects, including the mural trail, which she jokingly referred to as her "biggest headache" but also her "biggest project."
