Glastonbury will be buzzing with creativity during the two-week long Somerset Art Weeks Festival 2019 from this Saturday (September 21).
The festival is a celebration of art across the county, and this year it marks its 25th anniversary by seeing venues the length and breadth of Somerset taking part.
Glastonbury has a number of participating venues, including a special new mural trail across the town.
A mural trail leaflet and map will be available from the Glastonbury Information Centre throughout the festival, every day from September 21 to October 6 between 10am and 5pm, to guide visitors to all the works of art on walls in all corners of the town.
The Red Brick Building is also taking part in the festival by hosting a multimedia extravaganza including photography, painting and site-specific installations from in-house artists John Fleming, Paul Branson and Julie Lovelock, plus invited guests from the local creative community. Open every day during the festival from 10am to 5pm.
In the nearby Bauhaus building, a Zig-Zig Mixed Show is taking place featuring painters Alda Gerchi, Julia Bedford, Gill Barron, Lucy Durnan, Megan Players and Ramona Belcher; photographer Kim von Coels; sculptor Alexandra Drysdale; and textile artist Blanka Kolkova. Open 11am to 6pm, not Mondays or Tuesdays.
At the Somerset Rural Life Museum, ceramic artist Emilie Taylor will be taking part in a Somerset Art Works craft residency. She has produced a ceramic slipware-based artwork/installation in response to the Donyatt slipware exhibition currently in the gallery space. Open between 10am and 5pm, not on Mondays.
Also there will be Art in the Almshouses, at the Magdalene Chapel and Almshouses from 10am to 4pm each day, not Tuesdays and Wednesdays. It will feature work by watercolour artist Trish Herlihy and iconographer Liz Pearson.
