Tesco customers in Glastonbury can now help decide which local good cause will receive a grant of up to £1,500 as part of the supermarket's Stronger Starts scheme.

Ashcott Primary School, Fordhaven CIC and Wedmore Village Farm have all been shortlisted to take part in Tesco's blue token vote – with the winning project receiving a cash boost to help improve food security, health, and wellbeing for children and young people in the local area.

The grants are part of Tesco's £8 million Stronger Starts programme, which supports schools, community groups and charities delivering activities that benefit children – from school breakfast clubs to play areas, counselling services, food banks and youth sports teams.

The scheme is managed by environmental charity Groundwork and is aimed at making a tangible difference to local communities. In Scotland, the initiative is run in partnership with Greenspace Scotland.

A Tesco spokesperson said: "The funding aims to make a positive difference – because where our communities thrive, our business and our colleagues thrive too."

The public vote runs every three months across Tesco stores nationwide, with three causes selected in each region. Customers can cast their vote by placing a blue token into the relevant box at the checkout.

Organisations eligible to apply include schools, charities, health bodies, parish and town councils, local authorities, and social housing providers. The grants can cover 100% of project costs, with no match funding required.

Applications are now open for the next round. Groups looking to apply must first read the eligibility guidance, locate their nearest Tesco store via the company website, and submit an application form online.
