Glastonbury pub in final six for top UK award
By Laura Linham 24th Mar 2026
A Glastonbury pub is heading to a major black-tie awards night in London this week after being shortlisted among the final six in the country for a top industry prize.
The Mitre Inn has been named a finalist in the Best New Site category at the Publican Awards 2026, with the winner due to be announced tomorrow (Wednesday, 25 March.)
For the team behind the Glastonbury venue, it is a big moment. The Mitre says it is the only pub in its category from the South West and will be up against high-profile competition from venues in London, Manchester and Brighton and Hove.
Even making the shortlist is a significant achievement for an independent pub in the heart of Glastonbury, and one the team is clearly relishing as it prepares to swap aprons for dinner jackets and gowns.
The recognition follows a site visit and question-and-answer session with judges, after which The Morning Advertiser singled out the venue for special praise.
In its assessment, the trade title said: "This failing former pub has not just been revitalised but magnificently transformed. Bruce & his team have rebuilt from the ground up, spending a significant sum of money to create a pub that is now the jewel in the crown of Glastonbury."
It also praised the pub's commitment to local produce and low-waste cooking, highlighting what it described as an "impressive emphasis on local suppliers" to support the aim of running a zero-waste kitchen.
The judges' write-up also pointed to a strong steak offer from a local farm, produce grown by small local growers, and a kitchen operation where "not a single ingredient is wasted", including nose-to-tail butchery.
