A Glastonbury mum and her six-year-old daughter are preparing to clock up 124 miles in October as they embark on an ambitious year of fundraising.

Katie Holland and daughter Isabella plan to complete two charity challenges every month for the next 12 months, supporting a different pair of good causes along the way.

They are starting in October with challenges for the Stroke Association and Refuge.

Katie and Isabella will run a total of 62 miles during the month to raise money for the Stroke Association before also completing a separate 62-mile walking challenge in aid of Refuge.

And the walking leg is becoming a family affair.

Katie's mum, Vivienne Holland, who works at Card Factory in Street, and Katie's three-year-old son Thomas will join them for the Refuge challenge.

Vivienne has decided to draw the line at the running, however, leaving that particular 62 miles to Katie and Isabella.

The family has recently moved back to the area and now lives in Glastonbury, although Katie grew up in Street.

The idea for the fundraising came from Isabella herself, according to her mum, after the six-year-old saw elderly people struggling with their physical health and decided she wanted to help others.

Katie said Isabella was particularly passionate about helping people and was also interested in finding local projects she could support.

The pair now hope their October challenges will be just the beginning.

Their aim is to support two charities during every calendar month over the coming year, while also getting involved with projects closer to home in Glastonbury and Street.

They have set themselves an initial fundraising target of £250 for each event and are hoping people across the local community will get behind them.

Katie is also keen for other people to join some of their future walks and runs rather than simply supporting from the sidelines.

With 124 miles to cover in October alone, the Hollands certainly aren't easing themselves gently into their year of fundraising.
