Glastonbury Morlands site could get six new units

New industrial units could be built on part of the former Morlands factory site in Glastonbury if fresh plans get the green light.
The Harris Partnership Ltd, on behalf of Rex Land (Glastonbury) 2 Ltd, has submitted an application to redevelop a 1.88-acre plot at Morlands Enterprise Park, off Beckery New Road.
The site, which sits between Tesco and Aldi, is currently vacant and has no vehicular access.
Under the plans, six industrial units would be built, ranging from 3,500sq ft to 5,500sq ft. The scheme also includes 46 parking spaces, six EV charging spaces, five accessible spaces and 16 cycle spaces.
Two new access points would be created from Beckery New Road, along with two service yard areas on the site.
Planning papers say nearby homes would be screened by a 3m-high timber fence, with extra trees and planting added where possible.
The application also notes that a car showroom and workshop had previously been approved for the site, and says that scheme was of a similar height and scale to what is now being proposed.
In the planning statement, the applicant says the redevelopment would bring a vacant site back into active economic use, while creating jobs and adding facilities for the local area.
People wanting to view the plans or comment can search application reference 2026/0450/FUL on the Somerset Council planning portal.
