A flood alert has been issued for Glastonbury and surrounding areas as river levels continue to rise on Thursday, 18 December 2025.

The Environment Agency warns that flooding is possible along the River Brue, River Sheppey, Glastonbury Millstream, and the North and South Drains. Low-lying land and roads, particularly around the B3151 between Glastonbury and Meare, are at risk.

The River Brue is forecast to overtop at North Drain and Westhay, with the Millstream also likely to breach its banks. The river is currently bankfull upstream of Bruton Dam, and flooding of fields is expected.

Crews are working to clear debris screens, and the Environment Agency says it is closely monitoring the situation. River levels are expected to fall overnight, but more flooding is possible at the weekend due to forecast rainfall.

Residents are advised to avoid walking, cycling or driving through flood water. Road closures may be in place — refer to your local authority website for updates.

The flood alert will be updated by 2 pm on Friday, 19 December 2025, or sooner if conditions change.
