Ayesha Kalaji is making huge waves in the food world

Glastonbury chef Ayesha Kalaji is named as a finalist in the inaugural BIH Spotlight Awards. The BIH Spotlight Awards are the first ever awards to celebrate diverse talent within the UK hospitality industry.

Ayesha is a finalist in the Middle Eastern Food category. She is co-owner and Head Chef at the Queen of Cups gastro pub, situated in Northload Street, Glastonbury. 

Ayesha says: "It's an honour to be chosen as a finalist amongst such incredible company. I'm so grateful for the opportunity to showcase the food I adore, and to receive recognition for it is a wonderful feeling. I refuse to conform to stereotypes with my food and with who I am, and this nomination is proof that it's been worth it."

The winners will be announced at a live event in London on 24th of October.  

Over 400 public nominations were received for businesses and individuals of exceptional talent and achievement from Black, Asian, and ethnic minority backgrounds working within the UK hospitality industry.

The BIH Spotlight Awards judging panel is co-chaired by industry luminaries, TV presenter and celebrity chef Andi Oliver and co-founder of D&D London, Des Gunewardena. Alongside food and diversity consultant Mallika Basu; Masterchef winner and restaurateur, Shelina Permalloo; author and chef, Mike Reid; global rum ambassador, Ian Burrell; wine and sake educator, Shane Jones; CEO and founder of Umbrella Training, Adele C Oxberry; Co-owner of Tayer + Elementary, Monica Berg; and chef consultant, Jay Morjaria.
