Organisers of Glastonbury Chilkwell Carnival are asking people coming in from neighbouring towns and villages to leave their cars at home when they come to Glastonbury for Saturday night's event.

They are urging people from Street to walk the short distance into Glastonbury or use public transport, warning that if the car parks in the town fill up too quickly, they may have to close roads early.

When carnival got underway in Bridgwater on November 5, the town was so busy that people were being turned away and told not to travel to the town.

Organisers say that if police tell them that they have to close the roads earlier than the advertised road closure times, they will do so. People travelling to Glastonbury from outside of the immediate area are also being urged to give themselves extra time for their journey as the town is expected to be extremely busy.

The procession is due to start at 7pm, with a pre-procession taking place at 6.20pm.
