Glastonbury building contractors Melhuish and Saunders have recently started work on a new affordable housing project.

The scheme is at West Hill in Portishead, and will see Melhuish and Saunders build eight affordable housing apartments over the next year.

The client is Alliance Homes, and Melhuish and Saunders are currently demolishing the old garages and clearing the site ready for the construction of an apartment building of eight flats.

A spokesperson for Alliance Homes said: "What was once a set of garages, our site on West Hill in Portishead, will be transformed into eight modern apartments for affordable rent.

"When complete in early 2022, there will be six apartments with two bedrooms and two apartments with one bedroom.

"The site in Portishead is in easy reach of the sea front and local shops. The project is part of our ambitious goal to deliver 2,000 homes in the next 10 years."

A spokesperson for Melhuish and Saunders said: "Our site manger Rick is running this site, and after the success he made of Kings Fitness and Leisure in Cheddar, we expect amazing results.

"This is going to be a long project but the finished result will be fantastic."
