Glastonbury in Bloom has been nominated to represent the South West Region in the prestigious RHS Britain in Bloom UK Finals, in the Town Category.

This nomination is not just an honour but also a testament to the town's dedication to beautifying its landscape.

As Glastonbury Town Council celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2024, the council has decided to infuse the town's floral displays with colours from its crest - a vibrant palette of blues, yellows, white, and silver. This choice of colours is expected to bring a unique charm to the town's streets and public spaces, reflecting its rich heritage and community spirit.

This year, Glastonbury had an extraordinary year in the regional South West in Bloom competitions, claiming numerous gold awards and setting a new record for the town.

The accolades started with the town's floral displays winning the prestigious Preece Cup in its population category. Glastonbury Town Hall was also lauded, taking home the Abbiss Cup for the best horticultural display on a municipal building. And it didn't stop there; the town also received the Sargent Trophy for outstanding effort and contribution from a main competition entry.

But the recognition was not solely for the town as a whole. Glastonbury's Volunteer Network shone in the 'Gardening for the Disabled' category, winning the award across the entire South West region.

Further awards were in store for local businesses, with 11 receiving distinctions ranging from Silver Gilt to Gold. Glastonbury Galleries represented the town in the Amberol Trophy for the best floral business display and were named runners-up.

The town was also a strong contender in several other categories, finishing as runners-up for the Michael McGahey Trophy for best community effort, the South West Tourism Salver for best portfolio, and the Dee James Trophy for best interpretation of art in the landscape.

The local community was not left out, with more than 10 entrants winning levels 3: Advancing, 4: Thriving, or 5: Outstanding in the competition's 'It's Your Neighbourhood' section. Many local growers and gardeners were also honoured for their hard work.

The town's enthusiasm is high, with aspirations to perform outstandingly, if not better than before, in 2024.
