The Glastonbury and Street Lions Club (CIO) has donated £600 to the Somerset Prostate Support Association (SPSA) in support of a prostate testing event organised by the charity. The event, which will take place on Sunday 6th October at Glastonbury Town Hall, aims to provide essential prostate tests to local men.

The initiative has also received significant backing from The Brue Boys, a choir based in the Baltonsborough area. Earlier this year, the choir held a concert with sponsorship from Burns the Bread and Glastonbury Ales, raising £2,580 for SPSA. Together with private donations and the Lions Club's contribution, a total of £5,600 has been raised, which will fund prostate tests for 200 men.

A spokesperson for the Lions said: "The support that the SPSA has had from The Brue Boys and others is wonderful, and we are delighted to support this initiative. Every year in the UK, 40,000 men are diagnosed with prostate cancer, and early diagnosis is crucial for successful treatment."

The testing event requires pre-booking, and times are limited. To check availability, visit mypsatests.org.uk and search for the SPSA event. Unfortunately, testing without a prior appointment will not be possible on the day. For any queries, Peter Hopwood, Chair of the SPSA, can be contacted at 01458 441669 or via email at [email protected].

The Glastonbury and Street Lions will also have a promotional stall at the event, sharing information about their club's activities.
