If you're trudging through October wondering whether to dust off your CV or just dust the skirting boards, here's a round-up to suit either mood.

Whether you're chasing a steady wage, a seasonal side gig, or just bored enough to see what's out there, Street and Glastonbury have rustled up some fairly varied options.

First up, Driving Instructor at My Four Wheels, who are still desperately recruiting trainee instructors across the patch. You'll need a full UK licence held for 2.5 years, a clean-ish record, and the patience of a saint. They promise full training and plenty of pupils thanks to the current learner backlog. Possibly not one for the faint-hearted or shouty.

Over at Crown Petfood (Mars Petcare) in Castle Cary, there's a solid-sounding gig for a Shift Maintenance Engineer, with pay hovering between £43.6k and £46.1k depending on shifts. Think hands-on fixing of food-processing kit, with decent perks (private health, EV scheme, biscuits probably). It's 32 hours per week but with wiggle room for overtime.

Wildlife fans with warm coats might fancy the Part-Time Car Park Attendant post at RSPB Ham Wall. It's a seasonal winter role (November to March) helping control car park chaos during the starling murmuration rush. It pays £13.45/hr for 5 hours a week and does involve weekends and holidays. Binoculars optional.

Meanwhile, Warehouse Operative roles are going with Clarks in Street, picking and packing shoes. It pays a tidy £12.21/hr rising with time and overtime, and they offer weekday and some weekend shifts. If you know your left foot from your right this is right up your Street (did you see what I did there?)

Pet food seems to be a growth industry locally, as James Wellbeloved is also hiring Shift Process Operators at its Glastonbury and Ditcheat plants. Pay ranges from £28k to £31.5k with shifts rotating between nights, afternoons and mornings. Includes bonuses, gym access, and the warm fuzzy feeling of helping pets get dinner.

Not to be outdone, the Ditcheat site of Crown Petfood is also after a Shift Maintenance Engineer, again with that mid-£40k salary.

There's also a 13-week contract going for a Cleaning Operative, supporting local council environmental services. It's based out of the Glastonbury depot and includes bin emptying, litter picking and fly-tip removal. Early starts, full-time hours, £14.10/hr.
