In Glastonbury, some of the vibrant and expressive street art that adorns many walls is the work of one local artist: Ben Chidgey.

A well-known street artist whose creations can be found all over town, Ben has taken his craft from the walls of Glastonbury to the canvas of the human body. At 39, he's become a prominent tattoo artist, opening his own studio, Chapter 3, on Northload Street.

Ben's journey from street artist to tattooist began 15 years ago when he moved to Glastonbury. His transition into tattooing came about by chance. While painting in a friend's studio, he was offered a chance to learn tattooing. "Painted in a mate's studio and he offered to teach me. Lucky really," Ben said, about his unexpected start in the world of tattooing.

After years of working at Exclusive Tattoos, Ben opened his own studio, driven by his desire to "do his own thing."

His new studio, aptly named Chapter 3, symbolises a new phase in his artistic journey. "I loved my time at Exclusive Tattoos," he says, "but I just wanted to do my own thing."

His tattooing style is distinct and carries echoes of his street art, marked by his love for pop art and logos. He's tattooed a few hundred individuals over the years, each piece a unique interpretation of his artistic expression.

Ben offers some sage advice for newcomers to tattoos: "Research your artist and make sure they can do what you want - and make sure they are not proper spleens!"

It's a call to find an artist whose style resonates with you, much like his street art resonates with the community of Glastonbury.

From the walls of his hometown to the skin of his clients, Ben's art continues to evolve and inspire. His new studio, Chapter 3, located on Northload Street, offers a glimpse into a creative mind that once transformed the urban landscape and is now leaving a mark in the world of tattooing.

Those interested in exploring Ben's work further or booking an appointment can reach him at [email protected] or visit Chapter 3 to experience his artistry in person.
