Several businesses in Street and Glastonbury have been highlighted for needing to improve their food hygiene standards following inspections by the Food Standards Agency (FSA).

These ratings provide an insight into how well establishments are complying with food safety laws and maintaining cleanliness.

The FSA's food hygiene rating system scores businesses from 0 to 5, with 5 meaning "very good" and 0 requiring "urgent improvement." Inspectors assess three key areas: hygienic food handling, cleanliness and condition of facilities, and the management of food safety. A rating of 3 is considered "generally satisfactory," but lower scores indicate specific areas that need addressing.

One of the businesses requiring significant improvement is Timo's on Benedict Street, Glastonbury. Following an inspection on 13 August 2024, the restaurant received a rating of 1. Inspectors found that while food handling was satisfactory, the cleanliness and condition of the premises needed improvement, and there were serious concerns with the management of food safety, which requires major improvement.

Other establishments received ratings of 3, indicating they are meeting basic standards but still have room to improve. These include:

  • Elaichi Tandoori on High Street, Glastonbury, inspected on 5 July 2023. The restaurant was found to be generally satisfactory across all inspection areas.
  • Londis on Chinnock Road, Glastonbury, inspected on 13 May 2024. The retailer met the required standards for food handling, cleanliness, and management of food safety.
  • Mullions Hotel on High Street, Street, inspected on 7 August 2024. The hotel's food safety standards were deemed generally satisfactory.
  • The Royal Oak in Walton, inspected on 13 September 2024. Inspectors found the pub met the required standards across all areas.

While a rating of 3 is acceptable, businesses are encouraged to make improvements to aim for higher standards.

Food hygiene ratings are available for the public to view via the Food Standards Agency's website, allowing customers to check the performance of local establishments. Businesses with lower ratings are expected to take action to address shortcomings and improve their standards for future inspections.
