A Street food bank is running low on supplies following a drop in donations and a rocketing rise in demand.

Now the Salvation Army in Street have put out a plea for donations, which can be dropped off at the Salvation Army in Goswell Road, Street.

In a post on Facebook the foodbank said it is "really low" on a number of items, especially tinned meat, tinned fruit, rice pudding and custard, tinned soup, and tinned fish.

Other items on the 'shopping list' are: long life milk, long life fruit juice, jars of spreads, instant mashed potato, tinned tomatoes, bags of sugar, packets of jelly, tinned veg, jars of pasta sauce, and instant coffee.

The number of people using food banks across the UK has risen from just a few thousand people to millions since 2010.

It follows warnings that many lower-income people will be forced to choose between paying for heating or food.

Donations can be dropped off Mon - Wed or Fri 9.30am til 1.00pm (afternoons, we are often out visiting or delivering), or alternatively, contact us to arrange a time to suit you.
