By Laura Linham 9th Jul 2026
Multiple fire crews from across Somerset were called to tackle a serious house fire in Glastonbury on Wednesday afternoon after flames tore through a semi-detached property in Compton Close.
Avon Fire & Rescue Service said its control room received several emergency calls reporting the blaze, with firefighters arriving to find smoke and flames issuing from the property.
Crews from Glastonbury, Street, Wells, Somerton, Cheddar, Yeovil and Honiton attended the incident, supported by an aerial ladder platform, as firefighters worked to bring the fire under control.
Dramatic scenes unfolded in the residential street as police and firefighters remained at the scene, with hoses stretched across the road while crews tackled the blaze. Images from the scene show extensive damage to the roof and first floor of the home.
Firefighters wore breathing apparatus sets and used three hose reel jets, four main jets, two triple extension ladders and two thermal imaging cameras during the incident.
Avon Fire & Rescue Service said the property sustained approximately 75 per cent fire damage and was 100 per cent affected by water damage.
The cause of the fire has been confirmed as accidental.
The incident has now been left in the hands of the police.
