Final Push to Save Wilf’s Orchard and St Edmund’s Well

The Friends of St Edmund's Well CIC, a Glastonbury community group, is making a final appeal for funds ahead of the auction of Wilf Peddle's beloved orchard on September 25th. Known as Glastonbury's "Egg Man," Wilf tended to this land, which is now at risk of being lost.
Formed earlier this year, the CIC has over 50 passionate members, many from Windmill Hill, who cherish Wilf's orchards as vital remnants of Glastonbury's rich agricultural heritage. The site is also a haven for diverse wildlife, including deer, foxes, badgers, hedgehogs and bats.
If successful, the group aims to transform the orchard into a Memorial Orchard, planting heritage fruit trees to honour local lives and events, while enhancing biodiversity and fostering community wellbeing and education.
Additionally, they plan to restore St Edmund's Well, an overgrown historic site linked to England's patron saint, King Edmund, who was a Christian king of East Anglia and often evoked as a protection against sickness.
While the campaign has seen incredible community support, urgent funds are still needed to secure the orchard before the auction.
Supporters can donate directly to Crowdfunder:
