Monday 25th May 2026 | Ferne Animal Sanctuary, Somerset, TA20 3DH

Ferne Animal Sanctuary will celebrate Somerset's abundant wildlife at its Wildlife Day, taking place on Monday 25 May at its 72-acre grounds near Chard.

The day will include a host of one-off activities for all ages, including:

  • Talks from the Chairman of the Somerset Moth Group, offering insights into the UK's most fascinating nocturnal insects, with the opportunity to get up close to some of the species to learn about their natural habitats and characteristics.
  • Pond dipping in the freshwater pond to discover a variety of aquatic minibeasts.
  • A smartphone photography workshop with local garden photographer Andrea Duncan.
  • Wildlife-themed arts and crafts for the whole family.

Amy Rendell, Corporate & Events Officer at Ferne Animal Sanctuary, says, "This is a lovely time of year to visit the sanctuary - everything is green, budding and full of life, and with the warmer weather many of our animals are choosing to spend more time out in the open, so it's a great opportunity to see our residents at their most active.

"The ticket price includes access to the sanctuary for the day, giving visitors plenty of time to relax and enjoy the day at their own pace. Alongside the themed activities, there is plenty of space to roam, play and explore, and our on-site café Perdidas will be open all day for those looking to enjoy a delicious treat as part of a day out."

Between 10.30am to 12.30pm, professional gardening photographer Andrea Duncan will lead a practical outdoor smartphone photography workshop. The session will cover the technical and creative principles of outdoor photography, with guidance on editing images - ideal for garden lovers and those looking to capture the beauty of the outdoors. Spaces are limited and should be pre-booked at £45 per person.

Pre-booked entry prices will be reduced to £5 per adult and £3 per child or full price if booked on the day. For more information about tickets and activities, please visit https://www.ferneanimalsanctuary.org/product-category/workshops-courses-events/
