Families can look forward to a magical, sensory-friendly Christmas experience as Santa’s Quiet Grotto returns to Dobbies Garden Centre in Shepton on Friday, 6 December.

This carefully designed event offers a festive celebration tailored specifically for children with additional needs.

The Quiet Grotto is aimed at neurodiverse children who may find traditional Christmas activities overwhelming. Key adaptations include turning off music, removing twinkling lights, and creating a relaxed, queue-free environment. Sessions are kept small to ensure a calm and enjoyable atmosphere for everyone attending.

In preparation for the visit, families will receive a photo of the grotto in advance, helping children familiarise themselves with the setting. The experience can be further personalised, with Santa’s team offering options like wrapped or unwrapped gifts to suit each child’s preferences.

This year’s grotto takes visitors on a train-themed adventure, complete with festive scenes and interactive elements. Starting at Sleighbell Station, families will explore snowy forests, spot woodland creatures, and uncover hidden nutcrackers before the highlight of the visit—meeting Santa Claus himself.

For children who prefer a more relaxed approach, optional activities such as storytelling and snowball fights are available. Families will also have the chance to capture the moment with a professional photo alongside Santa.

Praised in previous years for its inclusivity, Santa’s Quiet Grotto offers children of all abilities the chance to enjoy the magic of Christmas in a stress-free and welcoming environment.

Tickets cost £12.99 per child, and sessions must be booked in advance. Families are encouraged to secure their place early to avoid missing out on this unique festive experience.
