A major scheme to resurface a key road between Bridgwater and Street is planned to take place later this month.
The A39 Main Street at Walton is showing signs of deterioration with numerous cracks and potholes on the carriageway. The scheme is the second phase of works at this location which was split to reduce the length of the works and minimise disruption.
Cllr John Woodman, Somerset County Council Cabinet member for Highways, said: "This is the next stage of essential works to improve this key road."We've done our best to keep disruption to a minimum by splitting the scheme into phases and planning the road closure for half-term when there is less traffic on the road. However, we appreciate it's a very busy route so please do check the details carefully and plan ahead."
The scheme is primarily resurfacing and will include minor repairs to the existing drainage systems, excavation and removal of soft spots and kerb repairs over a 300m stretch of road.Following consideration of all options at the design stage, the three-week scheme has been split into phases:
Weeks 1 & 2 (14 – 27 October): Road open for prep works with traffic controlled by temporary traffic signals where required.Week 3 (28 October – 1 November): Road fully closed for resurfacing between 7.30am and 5.30pm.
Access to households and businesses within the village will be maintained by liaison with on-site staff. Every effort will be made to keep the duration of the works to a minimum and pedestrian access will be maintained.During the road closure a suggested diversion route will be clearly signposted on site or can be found at www.travelsomerset.co.uk/roadworks.
