Embankment fire extinguished with help of crew from Glastonbury

By Tim Lethaby 16th Jul 2021

Yesterday (June 9) in the afternoon if you heard sirens there were five fire engines from all over the local area mobilised to a reports of a fire in Charlton Adam.

The fire service said that the numbers involved is a sign of how important it is for these kind of wild fires not to be allowed to escalate.

Over 100 metres of the railway embankment were alight with an engine from Glastonbury, joining teams from Street, Somerton, Yeovil and Martock. They were joined by two special wildfire pumps, one from Somerton and one from Glastonbury and a water carrier from Yeovil.

Crews used four hose reel jets, compressed air foam, beaters and small tools to extinguish the fire.
