Street has seen a noteworthy reduction in crime during February 2024, with the total number of reported incidents dropping to 67 from 99 in the previous month.
This significant decrease highlights the effectiveness of local law enforcement strategies and community engagement in tackling crime.
The detailed statistics reveal a substantial reduction in violent crime, which decreased from 40 incidents in January to 24 in February.
This category still accounts for the highest number of crimes in the area but shows a promising downward trend. Anti-social behaviour has also notably declined, with reported cases halving from 17 to 8.
There were fewer incidents of burglary and vehicle crime, both seeing a marked decrease. Burglaries dropped from 6 to 2, and vehicle crime fell from 9 incidents in January to just 2 in February. These figures suggest that property-related crimes are being effectively curtailed.
However, not all news is positive. Criminal damage and arson cases rose from 2 in January to 6 in February, indicating a growing concern in this area.
Additionally, instances of other thefts increased from 3 to 9, suggesting a need for continued vigilance from residents and law enforcement alike.
The crime categories cover a wide range of offences, including public order offences and shoplifting, which saw minor reductions. Shoplifting incidents decreased slightly from 8 to 7, and public order offences reduced from 13 to 7.
A police spokesperson responded to the latest statistics, stating, "While we are pleased with the overall reduction in crime figures, particularly in violent crime and anti-social behaviour, the increase in criminal damage and other thefts is concerning.
"We are committed to addressing these issues through targeted initiatives and increased police presence in key areas."
