Commercial Building Fire at Bancombe Road, Somerton

Date: 29.03.2019Time: 22:50Location: Bancombe Road, SomertonDevon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service received a call stating there was a building on fire at the above location.
Fire control sent fire appliances from Somerton and Martock. The water carrier was also sent from Yeovil due to information received that there is a poor water supply in the area.On arrival the incident commander from Somerton confirmed that the building was well alight and cylinders were believed to be involved in the fire. The incident commander made pumps six for additional personnel. These appliances were sent from Street, Martock, Glastonbury, Yeovil and Burnham on Sea.
At 2308hrs the incident commander made up for a second water carrier which was sent from Bridgwater. They also request an aerial ladder platform which was sent from Yeovil.At 2319hrs crews confirmed that this was one commercial building measuring 60m x 20m well alight. The building contained machinery, cylinders and vehicles. The fire was being extinguished using two hose reel jets and one main jet.
At 2341hrs - the incident has now been split into sectors. A compressed air foam jet is also in use.At 0020hrs - the fire has been surrounded and good progress is being made. Two compressed air foam jets, two main jets and two hose reel jets were in use.
At 0031hrs - Police were requested to attend scene.At 0207hrs - the incident has been scaled down to two fire appliances and a water carrier. Crews are carrying out a watching brief and damping down any remaining hotspots using one hose reel jet and one main jet.
At 0345hrs - crews remain at work damping down hotspots using one hose reel jet and a thermal imaging camera.Further details to follow
