Football fans and supporters came together on Saturday for the "March to the Mallet," a charity walk from Street FC to Shepton Mallet FC, raising funds for the bereavement charity 2Wish.

The walk coincided with the local derby between the two Jewson Western League clubs and was organised in memory of Olivia Foster, the 15-month-old daughter of Street FC player Harry Foster. Olivia tragically passed away in October 2022, and 2Wish provided vital support to Harry and his family during this time.

Over 50 football clubs from across the South West donated playing shirts for the event. Walkers wore the shirts, which will now be auctioned off to further support 2Wish. Clubs including Wellington and AFC St Austell handed over their contributions ahead of the event, showing the widespread support for the cause.

The event was organised by Jon Burr, fundraiser and former player, alongside his friend Andy Stone.

Speaking about the walk, they said the idea was to unite the footballing community while raising awareness and funds for the vital work 2Wish does for families coping with sudden loss.

Walkers set off from Street FC on Saturday morning, with donations collected via QR codes and at the starting point.

"It's incredible to see so many clubs and people come together for such an important cause," said organisers Jon and Andy. "Thank you to everyone who has helped make this possible."

The fundraising doesn't stop there, with Street FC set to host their Annual Charity Football Match at The Tannery Ground (BA16 0TA) on Sunday 29th December 2024, kicking off at 2pm. The event promises a day packed with activities, including:

  • A football match
  • An auction featuring items such as a signed Geoff Hurst England shirt, signed Bristol City shirts, a signed Arsenal shirt, a Manchester United football, a top-quality cricket bat, and even a one-hour flying lesson.
  • A raffle with prizes including hampers, sports tickets, vouchers, and tickets for days out.
  • Food and drink stalls, including a pizza horsebox, a fish and chips van, and a tea and coffee stall.
  • Children's games and a cake sale, with all proceeds going to 2Wish.
  • A chance to meet the Gorgeous George 2Wish elephant mascot.

Organisers encourage everyone to attend, enjoy the activities, and support this vital cause.
