Caravan owner tells of his lucky escape after his home is blown over near Glastonbury

By Tim Lethaby   16th Jul 2021

A caravan owner has said he had a lucky escape after his home was blown over yesterday (February 10) near Glastonbury.

Andrew Bailey, his friend and two dogs were in the caravan when it was blown over and blocked Kennard Moor Drove, between Glastonbury and Coxbridge.

However, the four were lucky to escape as on one side of the road was a river and there was an overspill ditch on the other.

Andrew said: "We managed to get out by kicking the back window out and we were able to free the dogs.

"I have a whole new respect for Mother Nature, I am just glad no one was seriously injured.

"I got hurt by getting a burner to the face and bumps and bruises - the caravan is going to the scrapyard after I can salvage my belongings, but I am now homeless.

"I need to find a new caravan or sleep rough, I have been here for more than 12 months down by the river and a friend gave me this caravan.

"I have lost everything but on the other hand, no one was badly hurt so I guess it is time to start again."
