Bristol Water's plans for a new water main in Butleigh Wootton are progressing after the company was given approval to replace hedgerows in the village for the works.

A planning application for the removal of four hedgerows and replanting in order to lay a new water main on land between Wootton Street and Rowley Farm, Butleigh Wootton, was submitted to Mendip District Council by Ben Sands on behalf of Bristol Water.

The new water main will follow the line of the existing main but four sections of hedgerow, to a maximum of five metres, are to be removed and replanted to facilitate the installation works.

The existing water main is aged and has suffered numerous bursts in recent times. Where hedge sections are removed, replanting will be undertaken with similar species.

Butleigh Parish Council backed the application, saying that the replanting programme is welcomed as a replacement water main is necessary.
