Work to resurface a key road in Glastonbury is scheduled to start tomorrow (June 26).
Somerset County Council's Highways Team is resurfacing Benedict Street in Glastonbury as the road has been showing signs of deterioration over some time and needs major repair.
The scheme is in two phases - preparatory works will take place under a road closure beginning tomorrow and ending on Friday July 9.
The road will be resurfaced on the following working week (Monday to Friday July 12 to 16), again under a full closure.
The closure will be in place for 24 hours a day on the dates specified, and while this will have an impact in the short-term, it is in the best interests of the workforce and the travelling public.
Councillor John Woodman, Somerset County Council's cabinet member for highways said: "This is part of our ongoing commitment to investing in improvements across our road infrastructure.
"We know this will have an impact which is why we will work closely with those in the immediate area of the work to minimise disruption.
"Every effort will be made to keep the duration of the works to a minimum. Access to households and businesses, and pedestrian access, will be maintained when possible."
During the road closure a suggested diversion route will be signposted on site or can be found at www.travelsomerset.co.uk/roadworks.
