The Environment Agency has issued a flood alert for the Glastonbury area, saying that the B3151 Glastonbury to Meare Road is at risk of flooding.

Flooding is possible for the Rivers Brue, Sheppey, Glastonbury Millstream and North and South Drains, and the agency has issued a Be Prepared warning.

River levels are rising and further rain, similar to yesterday (October 3), is forecast during today before a spell of drier weather in the evening and then more showers during Monday and Tuesday.

With catchments wet, the rivers will respond to the rainfall and there is a risk of flooding to roads, including the B3151 Glastonbury to Meare Road, and farmland today.

Overtopping is forecast from the Glastonbury Millstream and the River Brue at North Drain and Westhay this afternoon.

An agency spokesperson said: "We are closely monitoring the situation and our incident response staff are checking our flood defence equipment and clearing weed screens.

"Please avoid using low lying footpaths near local watercourses and plan driving routes to avoid low lying roads near rivers which may be flooded."
