Glastonbury building contractor, Melhuish & Saunders Ltd, has been announced as one of three finalists in this year's Investing in Somerset Award, in the Somerset Business Awards, organised by Somerset Chamber of Commerce.
Managing Director, Darryl Mitchard, said: "We are delighted to hear that we've been shortlisted for this award which recognises our long-established connection with the local community and the commitment of our award-winning team.
"As a local family business, we are particularly proud of our 95-year heritage and we have great working relationships with a number of local subcontractors, suppliers and business support services who have remained loyal to us for a number of years and have helped us to build fantastic new spaces for residents and the commercial, education and healthcare sectors."
Business Development Manager, Sue Rushforth, said: "Melhuish & Saunders maintains a healthy turnover in challenging times, pro-actively identifying new business opportunities in Somerset and we would be happy to hear from anyone about a new build project, extension or refurbishment.
"In these challenging times we currently have capacity to undertake smaller projects."
The company moved from the Anglo Trading Estate, Shepton Mallet, to Glastonbury 10 years ago to Landmark House, near the Wirral Park roundabout.
It not only provides a Head Office for Melhuish & Saunders but also premises for local businesses and community organisations: MHA Monahans, WCBS, Somerset FA, Grace Church and Wholesale Mineral Makeup.
Melhuish & Saunders is a reknowned principal building contractor with a legacy of new builds and refurbishment projects throughout Somerset and the South West – the range varies from the iconic "wavy building" for Nisbets (National Catering Equipment Centre) at Avonmouth to a hay barn, reconfigured, for Ferne Animal Sanctuary in Chard to improve their facilities.
Melhuish & Saunders, an active member of Construction Excellence Somerset Club, is also a caring contractor and firmly believes in social responsibility, investing in the wider community by sponsoring local organisations who support the environment, health and wellbeing - recently sponsoring Mendip Vale Trust with new uniforms for their gardening team and Somerset Wildlife Trust.
Investing in Somerset, for Melhuish & Saunders, is not just about commercial opportunities but also support for others via networking, training and helping organisations in the voluntary sector.
The winners of the Somerset Business Awards will be announced at the Grand Final on October 25, being held at The Winter Gardens Pavilion, Weston-super-Mare.
