A long-standing car dealership and garage in Street will be closing for good at the end of this month, marking the end of an era for many loyal customers.

Abbey Garage, based on the High Street, has confirmed that its doors will close on 31 March 2025.

In a message shared with customers, the team said: "As you can imagine this is a very sad time for us and the decision was not made lightly. We would like to thank you all for your custom over the many, many years and wish you happy motoring!"

The announcement has prompted an outpouring of support from the local community. Customers have praised the business for its helpful service and longstanding presence in the town.

"Sad times. You guys were amazing – you will be greatly missed by many," wrote one local, while others described the garage as a "big loss" and "tremendous support over the years."

Sandra Adams said she had "really enjoyed coming here over the years buying cars," adding: "You've always been so helpful. Will miss popping in."

Abbey Garage's closure marks the second major dealership and repair centre to vanish from the local area within six months, following the sudden collapse of Blackdown Motor Company in Walton, which ceased trading shortly before Christmas.
