The A39 Glastonbury Bypass is closed both ways following a serious crash in the early hours of this morning (October 14).

The road is closed between the Northload Bridge Roundabout and the road that links the A39 and Wells Road.

According to Avon and Somerset Police, a car collided with a wall at 2.50am causing the structure to collapse on to the carriageway.

An occupant of the car was taken to hospital, though their condition is not known at this time, while a crew from Glastonbury Fire Station administered first aid to another occupant of the car.

The fire crew confirmed there was a small fire within the engine compartment of the car following the collision.

Crews extinguished the fire using one attack jet and made the vehicle safe with small tools.

According to satellite traffic cameras, traffic is heavier than usual around the town, but there are no significant hold-ups as diversions are in place.
